06 Apr Red Wine Stain On Carpet
So you or one of your guests has spilt some red wine on your precious carpet or favorite rug? Don’t worry, we have all been there and done that. You are not alone. So how do you get it out?
The first thing is to get to the stain while it is still wet as the longer the red wine spill remains untreated, the more difficult it is to remove. This is probably the most important factor in determining whether a red wine stain will come out. If the wine stain is not treated promptly – it can be very difficult to remove
- The first thing to do is dilute the stain with water, club soda, or even white wine. (I get that white wine does not sound intuitive, but let’s face it, it may be the only thing on hand at the time, and apparently, it does work!)
- Then, take a cloth and blot the stain from the outside in – this avoids the possibility of making the stain spread even further! Whatever you do, resist the urge to scrub uncontrollably as this will certainly spread the stain further.
- What can help dilute the stain is to cover it with iodized salt from the kitchen panty. This helps absorb the liquid that has seeped down to the bottom layers of the carpet. Let the salt sit on the stain for about an hour or until it’s absorbed all the moisture. Then remove away the salt with a vacuum or dustpan and brush.
There is nothing worse than spilling red wine on carpet or your favorite rug. Trust me I have done it many times and I have applied all of the above techniques with varying degrees of success. What I can say, is that each of the tips do contribute to reducing the stain. The success really depends on the size of the spill, the color of the carpet and definitely how fast you can get to treat the stain!
Good luck with it!! I hope your stain comes out. Let us know how you go.
